There was much wisdom in it all, and I was so pleased that Lauren responded with a heart that really wanted to commit to high standards in the area of purity. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.Īlso, the material covered issues of peer pressure, of not running with the herd, of setting personal standards for purity way away from the cliff where you might fall off, and of listening to counsel from parents who have their child's best interest at heart. That includes our bodies and our purity.ġ8 And he is the head of the body, the church. Some of the things that were stressed are that the Lord is to be first place over all things in our lives. It was Lauren's first Vera Bradley, so she was super excited. The most special thing was visiting a Vera Bradley store and each of us getting a new purse. Our activity was shopping and eating out. One suggestion is to schedule in a few hours just for a fun activity. The material explains in detail how to plan for the weekend. ![]() It shows us how to put the pieces of our lives together. Just as you need to see the box top, God's Word is our box top for life. One example was with puzzles and talking about how you need the box top of a puzzle to get it put together quickly. The projects are basically like object lessons to illustrate principles taught in the lessons. There are fun projects to do as a parent/child as you progress through the lessons. The preteen receives their own workbook and receives stickers as they progress through different lessons. The material consists of cds that can be listened to in the car as you drive. The material helps a mom or dad take a son or daughter away for a night or two and disciple them in the area of purity. Passport to Purity is a material put out by the ministry of Family Life. One of my son’s questions over the weekend, “what do the signs on the highway mean when they show women and say ‘adult store’?” He had made that connection.Earlier this month Lauren and I took a Passport to Purity weekend get away together. As we live in a society where adults are increasingly unbalanced on the subject of sexuality, we often forget that the kids are watching. One thing is for sure, if we do not intentionally engage our children at a young age, someone else will become an authority for them on the subject of sexuality. I recommend this program so highly that we have an offer at ReCAST Church to purchase the program for anyone who will take their preteen through the program. The program has afforded me the privilege to enter into a dialogue with my boys that would not otherwise come naturally to me.Īnd the comprehensiveness of the curriculum helped me to delve into topics and subjects that most parents just couldn’t bring themselves to discuss. A conversation that picks up when we are on the way home from band practice or when he has a question as we are praying and talking before he goes to bed. Instead, it has opened up an ongoing conversation. Having gone through the program a couple of years ago with my oldest, I have found that it was much more than THE talk. By the time that your son is chasing girls or your daughter is already flirting with the boys, they will likely find the program juvenile. The goal of the program is proactive instead of reactive. The goal is to get parents away for a weekend with their preteen child and go through a set curriculum that covers everything from peer pressure, physical changes, to rightly ordered sexual desire. The point of the material is somewhat in the timing. But I am so grateful for this resource that I wanted to pass it along. ![]() This was my second time using this program and I found it to be very beneficial! This is not a paid infomercial and nobody has put me up to writing this blog. This past weekend I took one of my sons away for the weekend and we used the Passport to Purity program by Family Life. I want them to be prepared for a wider picture of the changes, challenges and temptations that arrive with adolescence. at school, and increasingly porn caps off the education.Īs the father of two sons and a daughter, I want to help my kids to understand more than the mechanics of sex. We just kinda pieced things together from friends, sex ed. ![]() The one where many parents blushed and searched for words, mumbled some things under their breath and talked about the act of procreation.įor many of us we never had that talk. For a handful of us, we remember that awkward talk with our parents.
